This site is open source. Please visit the links on the left. Some of them are to discussion groups with which you are already familiar. The most important link is to the wiki, where you may post content. This is not the same format as other wikis—You do not need to know any special code! In order to acquire a login to write to the wiki, you need to send me an email. I will then send you an invitation, requsesting that you write on the site. It's that easy.
I hope that, through group effort on the wiki, we may be able to archive some of the threads from the various online discussion groups, as well as add new content. If a topic from a discussion group is worth archiving, but needs to be edited, this is a great place to do so. For instance, if I post an article about sect, and I am way off, then you may easily correct the error, while at the same time, creating educational content.
Please use simple English. Instead of cool words like "trigon lord," try to use "triplicity ruler." And wherever you change preferred terms or words into plain English, please link to the page of terms and definitions, which has a list of terms, their definitions, and an explanation of why such preferred terms as "trigon lord" are used. In this way, mainstream astrologers will feel invited to explore an area that otherwise seems secretive.
Disclaimer: Hellenistic-Astrology.com has no ties with Project Hindsight. This website is not a way for the work of Robert Schmidt to be plagiarized.
Please allow me to elaborate on this subject, and attempt to clear things up. There seems to be much confusion about what the Project is doing. First, Greek cannot be literally translated into English. If he were to do this, we would have a non astrological compendium. Secondly, in what I have seen of Vettius Valens' The Anthology, the work is rich with footnotes. In fact, the pages are half Valens, and half footnotes. These footnotes contain alternative English words that could have been used, followed by Shcmidt's logic in choosing the words he has. Please, do not accuse him of interpreting instead of translating; this is his job.
I don't want to be repetitive, but Greek cannot be translated—it must be interpreted. Please open your heart to these words, and allow yourself to enjoy learning something new, even if it is something old. I promise that you won't regret it, and you have nothing to lose, and much to gain.
Regardless of the astrology that you practice, be it mainstream western, to Chinese Four Pillars, this site may be of interest to you—if not for the technique, at least for the history. It is very important for astrologers to understand the history of their practice. If a cynical skeptic (and we must understand the difference, as we should be our own worst critics) starts to ask you the reasoning behind your particular astrological system, without historical reference, your argument will be of no use. Further, if you have no way to stand up for your practice—again, even if you do not incorporate any of the Hellenistic techniques into your practice—then astrology as a whole will loose what ground it has gained in the past few decades, and be viewed as a joke forever.
